Blogs Are Stupid

Doesn't anyone believe in Dear Diary anymore? What happened to the joy of putting actual pen to paper? And why does every ordinary Jane and John think they can write well enough to burden the world with their scribblings? It’s a mystery that badly needs solving. My first entry contains my thoughts about blogging and will set your expectations. The rest will probably be stream of consciousness garbage, much like you’ll find on any other blog. Perhaps we will both come away enlightened.

I think this blog is finished. It's been dying a slow death for a long time and I'm not sure how to resuscitate it. Or if I care enough to bother.

I know, I've threatened to quit before. It's kind of an annual tradition here at BAS. I know, you're probably throwing up your hands in disgust or chuckling to yourself. "Oh, that B.A., there she goes, threatening to quit blogging again. She'll be back."

But this is different. The apathy.....I just don't know.

I'd be sorry to see you go...But I do know about the apathy. I've been feeling kind of apathetic about the blog, too. Maybe three+ years is about the limit? ;-)

If you *do* actually vanish into the mists of the Intertubes, drop me a line now & then, wouldja?

Um. That would be me feeling apathetic about *my* blog, too, not yours! ;-)

I read every post, and really enjoy your blog. I'd hate to see you go.

But if that's what's best for you, then the rest of us will just have to deal with it :)

I've enjoyed your posts. I'd like to think you'd keep writing, in private if that suits better. You're a good writer and I bet it'll be great to look back on the details of these episodes when more water has passed under the bridge. I can relate to not feeling up to writing something for public consumption all the time...so as it turns out, I just don't post!

I'd be sorry to see you go, too, but understand you have to do what you think is best for you. If you decide your finished, you'll certainly be missed and if you stay we'll be glad to follow...

I, too, would be very sad to see you go. I certainly understand the apathy, though. I've been struggling on and off with that myself. For me, though, I just can't let go of the community, so I stay. For you, though, it's a totally different decision, 'cause you are your own person. Still, I would definitely miss your posts if they stopped completely.

Take a much needed break and only blog when you have to say. Don't write because you feel you gotta.

Pay attention to apathy -- it's a great tool.

I'm feeling the apathy big time on my own blog. I feel like summer is the time when all the bloggers are talking vapid Blogher posts and nobody is all fired up about anything remotely interesting. There are so many things to blog about, but if you're out that on your own, while everyone else is discussing the incredible importance of what to wear at BlogHer, it all sort of just turns me off.

You know how I feel about you, your writing, and your talent. The blogosphere would be a much lonlier, sadder place without your blog. And I would miss the life lessons you give your boys, which are often so profound. But you always have a place on MCMM (hint) to write if you were to close up shop. And maybe for right now that's all you need is a one day a week place to post.

You have such a unique voice and outlook, not only on you family issues, but world views too.

And your forays into "girly-land" quite the learning experience. ;-)

Will be sorry to see you go, if you do, but I can understand the . . . emotion.

Wherever you go, whatever you do...peace.

Wait...Are you talking about our apathy (at commenting) or yours? You couldn't be talking about your apathy because your subject matter is always thought provoking, intelligently thought out and well written. Take a break or do whatever is best for you, but PLEASE come back.
I wish that I had been able to read your blog 15 years ago when I was going through similar struggles with both of my sons. You would have been such an inspiration and a lifeline to me as I know that you have been to others.
By the way, congratulations to you younger son on passing that horrible math test and congrats to the older son on having a smart mother to teach him about the feelings of others when name calling is involved. You are awesome and will be missed in the blog world.

I like your blog, but it's okay to move on if you're done. I think I can say for your readers: We've enjoyed the ride.

Maybe something completely new is waiting around the corner. Just be sure to let us know if you publish under something besides Blog Antagonist, so we can all rush to the bookstore to pick up a copy. :)

Drat! I need to read proper English now and then. Your blog always fits the bill. If you go I will miss you. Please reconsider. Oh now I'm begging. Sorry.

My heart sank a little when I read this. Might I suggest to not declare your blog dead, but just ignore it without guilt until you feel like writing again. I'm being selfish, but yours is the first blog I go to when I check the updates on Bloglines. Reading you makes me feel slightly more intelligent.

    Ditto to all above.

I'd REALLY hate to see you go, but you do have to do what is best for you.

Well, I don't comment much. Maybe twice in the years you've had this blog. But I would miss you if you went.

I love your writing and relate with you stories so much that it's scary.. It's nice to find a people in the blog world who isn't trying to give something away or get the most tweets.

    Reconsider, please.

I just found your blog about a month ago, and I have spent every day since then reading every post you have written. I just finished a few days ago. I was left with an impending sadness, like turning the last page of a wonderful book. I have so looked forward to new entries... what a shame it would be if you left this community, truly. But if you must, I wish you the very best, you are an awesome lady!

BA, yours is one of the first blogs I read. You always make me think and often giggle. Know that this reader appreciates your writing!!

If you go, I will miss you. However, I really understand. My blog has been at a standstill for months. I truly enjoy your writing and think you are very good at communicating your thoughts and feelings. If you don't write here, write somewhere. You are a writer at heart.

I never thought you wrote for comments, personally. But I agree that you are entitled to wallow a bit.

Not sure if you want some insight but everyone goes through phases where they feel they want to do something that matters, and all the little things they do don't seem ever to be 'great' enough to matter.

Even so, it does matter, what you do in a day to day basis raising your kids. And it isn't necessarily 'greatness' to write, say, the Great American Novel' - in the sense of changing the world. Recognition as the world terms it, is usually based on the almighty dollar. Success = money.

But I am of the same opinion on the subject of 'greatness' as my SIL who says that the people who clean toilets - whether in hotels or in their own homes - those are the truly great people.

Perhaps volunteering at a homeless shelter or something like that might help get you out of your funk?

You, darling woman, affect more people than you can possibly imagine. You have a gift, and you can't hide it under a barrel.
