Blogs Are Stupid

Doesn't anyone believe in Dear Diary anymore? What happened to the joy of putting actual pen to paper? And why does every ordinary Jane and John think they can write well enough to burden the world with their scribblings? It’s a mystery that badly needs solving. My first entry contains my thoughts about blogging and will set your expectations. The rest will probably be stream of consciousness garbage, much like you’ll find on any other blog. Perhaps we will both come away enlightened.

A Perfect Post: "The Freshman" by Orthotic Contessa

I've only been in the blogosphere a short time, and in that time, I've run accross a lot of really great writers; witty, brilliant women who make even the most mundane details of everyday life funny and interesting.

But sometimes, you run accross a blogger that you just GET. Someone with whom you really feel a connection, someone you just know could be your very best friend in real life. She would keep all your secrets, she would offer you a shoulder to cry on, she would be your cheerleader and your clown, and she would never look at you like you have three heads if you expressed an opinion on something other than draperies or diapers.

Orthoticcontessa is just such a person. Not only is she an absolutely fabulous writer, she is irreverent, funny, sassy and strong. We are at similar stages in our lives, so our stresses and heartaches are much the same, as are our joys and triumphs. While many of you are bringing children into your lives, we are preparing for their departure from ours and facing the milestones that will take them away from us into adulthood and autonomy. We do this with joy and sorrow.

In this post, she has beautifully captured all the conflicting emotions that occur when a mother watches her baby get that much closer to leaving her. With her gentle humor and amazing insight, she has crafted a poignant piece that left me both mourning and celebrating the fierce independence that will one day take our children from us.

For that reason, I have nominated The Freshman for a Perfect Post Award for August.

Visit Lucinda and Momma K to see all the wonderfully deserving recipients for August. And thanks once again to both of them for bringing bloggers together in friendship and furthering the cause of peace and solidarity amongst women.

Also, heartfelt thanks to Antique Mommy for nominating my short story "Funeral In A Small Town Part I: "Nanny" this month! I appreciate the kind gesture and it's an honor to be recognized by such a fine writer.

A Perfect Post

Congratulations on your Perfect Post! It's well deserved. As for Kvetch, you couldn't have picked a more perfect blogger for that honor. Well done on both accounts.
